lyrics

I saw their needles of salvation
On the concrete floor of a public toilet
On Highett St, Richmond, Victoria
And a butchers knife sitting so delicately by the basin
The cleaners remove needles daily
Like pigs arresting those who stuck them in their arms
While our heroic idol athletes run circles around the park

The council's fixed on digging up holes
Then filling them in
Under strict orders
To keep things in good order
They can clean up the blood
But they can't take away
The fact that somebody first had to lose it

Our sacred king was self appointed
Therefore his son born prince by chance
And the rest of us
Wait around their gates
Starving for a wave without question
As the government drinks 'til we're homeless
You take our poor to form your armies
Convince them there's freedom worth fighting for
But my neighbour, she asks me
Why I stone her children after dark

We all know we can light a room if we need to
But fuck, let the darkness be darker
For when and if we ever need to
All we'll need is a match
And a candle to light what we're reading

As the council's fixed on digging up holes
Then filling them in
Under the strictest of orders
To keep these things in good order
They can clean up the blood
But they can't take away
The fact that somebody first has to lose it
